About our gourds...
My husband Gene is the gardener, and he grows as many hardshelled gourds as he can each season. I purchase the rest from farmers. These Lagenaria gourds must be dried for several months to a year before they are ready to scrub, sand, drill, and paint. They are decorated with acrylics and oil pastels and sealed with polyurethane. The painted gourds will retain their color forever if used indoors. I have some that are 25 years old that look exactly like the day I made them. A dried gourd is FOREVER!

Artsy Ornaments $18.
One-of-a-kind creations. I start with a dried banana gourd and decorate it with acrylics and oil pastels.

Well, I know, I know...they're not gourds, but they do come from the garden. Gene grows the okra, and dries it in a food dehydrator. (When small and tender it is really good to eat.) I custom sculpt the legs for each okragator body so they fit.
